UVU: Mens Basketball vs. Grambling State University 2012

Description Utah Valley kept Grambling State without a field goal for over eight minutes to start the game on its way to a 64-34 win on Wednesday night in the UCCU Center. The Wolverines (2-1) limited the visiting Tigers (0-3) to just 10 first-half points on 15.4 percent shooting in taking a big 24-point lead by halftime. "I thought we came out and did yeoman's job of working defensively and on the backboards," said head coach Dick Hunsaker. "We had a few sparks by individual plays that helped our energy." Alfonzo Hubbard led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points and eight boards off the bench. Isiah Williams also finished with 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting while Geddes Robinson, Ben Aird and Keith Thompson all added eight points apiece. UVU led 16-10 before closing the first half on an 18-0 run over the final 6:16. A Rory Fannon bucket followed by a steal and dunk from Thompson sparked the run. The half was capped with a Holton Hunsaker steal and a behind-the-back pass from Hubbard to Hunsaker for a fast-break lay-up. Aird scored six of UVU's first eight points to begin the second half - four coming on consecutive put-backs - extending the lead 46-19 with 15 minutes to play. Grambling State was led offensively by Steven Danridge's 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting, while Peter Roberson's seven boards paced the Tigers on the glass. Utah Valley held GSU to just 26.4 percent from the field on the night while outscoring the Tigers 42-14 in the paint.
