Mississippi Valley State University is a historically black college in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Academic departments at Mississippi Valley State University include the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, the College of Continuing Education, and the Graduate School. The university also offers an honors program for high-achieving students. At Mississippi Valley State University, students can find excellent on-campus facilities, including a post office, a comprehensive counseling center, a radio station, and even a recording studio. Students may also use the inexpensive local bus system, which runs from the university campus to several local areas. Although Itta Bena is a small town, the community has birthed internationally famous people, including blues singer B.B. King and civil rights activist Marion Barry.
